BBS

BBS (Bulletin Board System) is a computer server running software that allows users to connect to the system using a terminal program. Once connected, users can upload or download software and data, read news and bulletins, and exchange messages with other users, either through e-mail, public message boards, or directly via chat.

BBSes were popular from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, predating the widespread use of the internet. They served as a precursor to modern online services and communities, providing a platform for communication and file sharing for hobbyists, enthusiasts, and local communities.
